WCAG-minded static pages · human fallback

Accessibility statement

Construction financing is already hard. The website should not be the extra obstacle. This statement says what we aim for, what we know is still imperfect, and how to reach a person on our Johnson City team if a page fights you.

What this site is, technically

NewBuild is a static site: HTML pages, CSS, a small amount of JavaScript for navigation and the cost planner sliders. There is no login wall. There is no chatbot maze. The main next step is a phone call or a free consultation. That architecture is already an accessibility choice. You can always use the phone. That is documented on schedule.

We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA where it is practical on a marketing site: text alternatives on images, visible focus, keyboard access to navigation and native FAQ details, color that is not the only indicator, and resizable text that does not rely on images of words for body copy.

What we already do on these pages

Logos have text alternatives or empty alt when they are decorative next to visible brand text. Photographs of homes and of Tim Arrowood have real alt text that names what the picture is. The Equal Housing graphic is labeled. Buttons are links or real buttons, not clickable empty divs. FAQs use native details and summary so they work without a custom accordion script. The construction cost planner uses labeled range inputs. Disclaimers sit in text, not only in a color block.

We do not hide a second heading for search engines. We do not autoplay video. There is no fake video player on this site.

Known limits you should not have to discover alone

The cost planner is a visual slider suite. It is usable with a keyboard on a modern browser, but it is not a full accessible application with live region announcements for every tick. If the sliders are a barrier, skip them. Call (423) 406-1567 and we will talk through land, house, and site work out loud. The planner is an estimate, not a required gate.

Navigation includes dropdowns. They are buttons with aria-expanded. If a dropdown fails you, the sitemap lists the same URLs in a simple list. Footer links repeat licensing and legal pages on every screen.

We reuse one primary exterior photograph across state pages with different captions. Repeated images are not a claim that every state looks like that house. Alt text still names the geographic job of the figure.

PDF downloads are not the primary path. If we add a checklist PDF later, it should be tagged. Until then, the HTML pages are the source.

Third parties

Google review links, Facebook, LinkedIn, and NMLS Consumer Access are third-party sites with their own accessibility. We do not control them. Booking and apply vendors, when connected, must be tested. We will not claim a future embed is accessible before it exists.

Fonts load from a Google Fonts stylesheet for Inter Tight, the brand typeface. If fonts fail, the CSS stack falls back to Inter and system UI so the pages remain readable.

How to report a barrier

Email newbuild@preferredrate.com or call (423) 406-1567 and name the URL, the browser, and what you were trying to do. "The VA page dropdown never opens with a keyboard" is useful. "Your site is inaccessible" is not enough to fix a control. We will not ask you for a medical history. We will ask which page.

If you need the same information in another format, say which page and which format. We can read a program page on the phone. That is a reasonable path for a construction briefing anyway.

Formal complaints about lending discrimination are a different channel than website bugs. Equal Housing Opportunity. See licensing and HUD's housing discrimination resources. This statement does not limit those rights.

Maintenance

When we add a page, it should use the same heading order, FAQ markup, and button classes as the rest of the site. When we add a third-party embed, this statement should be updated if the embed changes the access story. Date of this writing: August 2026. We will not stamp a fake audit certificate we did not buy.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the site with a keyboard only?
Navigation, links, FAQ details, and the cost planner sliders are built as real controls. If a specific control traps focus, email the URL. Use the sitemap as a bypass.
Do you support screen readers?
Pages are semantic HTML with headings and native details. We do not ship a custom ARIA tree that we cannot maintain. If a name is missing on a control, tell us which one.
What if I cannot use the calculator?
Skip it. The free consultation and the phone exist so you are not graded on a slider. The calculator is not an application.
Is there an accessibility widget overlay?
No. We would rather fix markup than rent a widget that fights the page. If you rely on a specific browser extension, it should still see real headings and links.
